Regardless of what official solutions are, we are going to explore temporary solutions and permanent solution to ensure that hardware problem never persists.

OnePlus Touch Issue

Do not blame Android OS whatsoever because OxygenOS is the official skin approved by the OnePlus department and they are responsible for the unknown occurrence.

How to Fix OnePlus Touch issues

1. Affected Applications

The newer devices may not get affected by Ghost Touch problem when using specific applications. Random inputs are possible when using applications like CPU-Z, Google Chrome, Reddit, and others. The latest Android 9.0 edition framework did resolve the problem and it won’t reflect on the newer devices.

The Ghost Touch problem occurs, when “tp_proximity” sensor activation triggered by the application & inbuilt feature conflicts. In our case, OnePlus 7 consumers found a temporary solution that keeps the phone stable thought out the journey.

By turning off NFC, you can put an end to “tp_proximity” activation nightmare. I recommend adding NFC shortcut in the notification area, and turn ON/OFF when needed. I want to inform the readers that the NFC method works on earlier devices & newer devices. The Android version doesn’t matter at this point because OxygenOS introduce these Glitches & Bugs.

2. Random Application Crashing

OnePlus consumers lately reporting random application crashing without a trace of CPU or hardware stress. Reputed published apps, for instance, Facebook crashing even after updating the software to the latest build.

There are two scenarios explained by the professionals, either the device suffering from hardware defect or it is an internal software problem. If you have purchased a device under contract or recently, then swapping the phone from the manufacturer is an ideal option.

Telecommunication brands offer to swap the phone when a defect or error found and while the OnePlus is under warranty. However, the software remains the same on newer devices because OxygenOS integrated into the mainframe of Android OS.

3. Phantom Touch Recognized (OnePlus 7 only)

On June 3, 2019, OnePlus official developers recognized the problem and they received limited reports on it. The manufacturer confirmed that “Phantom Touch” is not a hardware issue & a software patch will roll out soon. The official software developer team did not announce the patch build release date.

Later on June 7, 2019, OnePlus released “OxygenOS 9.5.7” that improves 90Hz QHD display performance & camera performance. The 9th version dealt with “Ghost Touch” and they brought an end to the random inputs. The performance of the QHD display improved significantly, and the majority of the consumers reported that it resolved the issue.

4. Custom ROM

OnePlus launches new device every year, and they end support for an Android device in two-years of the period. Most of the readers probably using a previous generation and it’s a shame that your device is not receiving software updates.

For 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation phones, I recommend opting for custom ROMS that support the latest Android OS. Millions of XDA developers are working together to create custom ROMS, and I come across LineageOS 16.0 for OnePlus One.

Third-party developers offering stock Android experience for the previous generation of OnePlus devices, thus, eliminating OxygenOS invited disasters. Despite upgrading the phone, if the problem persists, then you might have a defective Display + Digitizer.

Can you imagine Android 9 Pie running on 2014 device OnePlus One?

It might sound ludicrous at the beginning, but it doesn’t have complex Bugs or Glitches. An Android consumer can feel at ease using it as a daily driver. You are missing advanced functions here due to hardware limitations, but the overall experience doesn’t shatter.

I’m leaving official One, Two, Three, Four (MISSING), Five, Six, and Seven series custom ROM source links. I implore the readers to browse through the content and then select one suitable custom ROM. Do not rush into things and learn about the risks involved in the process, and I have installed ROMS and never regretted it.

5. Switch Brands

For previous generation devices, I recommend switching brands from BBK Group supported manufacturer to Xiaomi or other brands. Unlike Apple (5-years of iOS updates), Android manufacturers provide 2-years of software support for the devices, and I do not recommend going for a brand that does not provide easy returns and ultimate software fixes.

Bottom Line

On a serious note, OnePlus should not add bloatware applications out of the box. Releasing OxygenOS without human testing during R&D always leads to disasters. I strongly suggest Android phone manufacturers to start providing software support stable performance for the coming years as well.
