In this article, we will share how you can root OnePlus 9 Pro without TWRP recovery. As we mentioned in our previous articles, TWRP is not available for these latest smartphones, including OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. In this case, we have to use another app called Magisk.
OnePlus 9 Pro is a Pro version of the OnePlus 9 with some advanced features. It is one of the most popular device from OnePlus after Nord. It is also popular because of its custom development. Many customizations and mods are available for the OnePlus 9 Pro that you can easily install on your phone and enjoy new tweaks.
About OnePlus 9 Pro
OnePlus 9 pro is a flagship device with a 6.7 inches Full HD LTPO Fluid2 AMOLED display and a Non-removable 4500 mAh battery. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset and Octa-core CPU, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Internal Storage. You will get OxygenOS 11 on top of Android 11. If you are a photographer, you will love this phone because it has a 48 MP + 8 MP + 50 MP + 2 M rear-facing lens and 16 MP Selfie camera.
To download and install these 3rd party custom mods and ROMs, you have to root your phone and unlock your phone’s bootloader. We are going to explain everything you need to know about Rooting and Unlocking bootloader in this guide. So you don’t need to worry.
What is Rooting?
First of all, Android is open-source, so you can do anything you want with it. Rooting is just like provide administrator or superuser permission to your phone. It gives your phone the freedom to install any ROM and gives you complete control over Android OS. You can change anything you want on your phone from the keyboard to the status bar. You can also install custom ROM and kernel on your phone. You can even remove all system apps from your phone.

- Enable OEM and USB debugging
- Flash the Magisk ZIP
- Unlock Bootloader

Before starting the procedure, you should remember some things. This will avoid confusion.
- Disable all security Locks

Setup Fastboot and ADB Drivers
As we mentioned above, you have to download and install ADB and fastboot drivers on your phone. If you don’t know about ADB, then check out here.
ADB is an Android Debug Bridge. It is a command-line tool used to flash TWRP recovery and Unlock the Bootloader of your Android phone. This acts as a bridge between your Android phone and your PC.
You have to download and install ADB drivers on your PC.
Also, you have to download and install Flash boot drivers. These drivers will allow you to flash the system partition on your Android phone.
The Android SDK (Software Developer Kit), which allows you to install and update recovery mode, is included. Fastboot is only possible if your device is unlocked.
The Fastboot mode is not available on all Android devices. You have to enable it. The Fastboot mode is made possible by independent Android developers or tech enthusiasts on different phones.
Step 1: Enable OEM Unlocking
The first step is to enable USB debugging.
For this, go to Settings > About phone and click on built number 5-7 times. This will enable the developer option on your phone.
Now go back to settings > Developer options > enable “OEM Unlocking” and “USB debugging”.
Log out of your Google account and make sure that your internet connection is working fine.
Step 2: Unlock Bootloader
Follow these steps to unlock the OnePlus 9 Pro bootloader using platform-tools on a Windows computer. Before using this tool, you should have ADB devices and fastboot drivers installed on your PC.
1. Connect your phone with a PC using a USB cable.
2. Open platform tool folder > type cmd in address bar > enter.
3. In command prompt windows, type this command and press enter.
This command will list all connected devices.
4. Then follow this command to reboot the bootloader and press enter.
adb reboot bootloader
5. Now, you have to use this command to unlock the bootloader of your OnePlus Nord.
fastboot flashing unlock
6. Select the Volume buttons to move the selector to “UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER” + press the power button to confirm. When you confirm this, your bootloader will be unlocked.
You have successfully unlocked your OnePlus 9 bootloader. This command will remove all your data.
Step 3: Root Your OnePlus 9 Pro
Now it’s time to root your phone. We have unlocked the bootloader and enabled USB debugging. We have to use Magisk app.
Install Magisk App on OnePlus 9 Pro
Step 1: First, you have to download Magisk App on your phone.
Step 2: Extract the downloaded stock boot file > copy boot.img file from the extracted folder > transfers it to the internal storage of your phone.
Step 3: Install the Magisk apk on your phone. Then open the app and then click on install.
Step 4: Then click on select and patch a file > find the boot.img.
Step 5: Wait for some time till it is working. It will patch the boot image.
Step 6: You can find the patched file can be found in the Downloads folder. Here you have to rename magisk_patched.img to boot.img again.
Step 7: Copy renamed boot.img to your computer.
Now you have to replace the phone’s current boot image with Magisk’s patched image to root your device. To do this, you have to follow some commands in the command prompt window.
Step 8: G to the cmd window again and use these commands to boot your OnePlus Nord in fastboot mode.
adb reboot bootloader
Step 9: Your phone will reboot and boot into the fastboot mode.
Step 10: Once rebooted, type the below command to flash our patched boot image file.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step 11:Once flashing is done, type the below command to Reboot your OnePlus 9 Pro phone.
Now open the Magisk App and see if your phone is rooted or not.
