OnePlus 8 Pro: Everything you need to know

OnePlus 8 Pro Specs, Price: OnePlus has launched next generation phones in an online event that was scheduled long ago, and the company chooses to respect reviewers & reporters’ health before business during pandemic situations. Now that we have the latest OnePlus 8 Pro packed with some serious hardware for gaming and daily power usage.

The real question is, whether it is suitable to replace 7th generation phones or stick to what we have for now? In this quick information guide, I will answer all questions and provide quick notes.

OnePlus 8 Pro

OnePlus 8 Pro Specifications

Flagship Processor

oneplus 8 pro processor
OnePlus 8 Pro Processor

OnePlus 8 Pro powered by Snapdragon 865, which is a flagship processor by Qualcomm. The latest Snapdragon X55 modem onboard is designed for 5G connectivity that supports SA and NSA 5G modes. Meanwhile, you have the fastest 12GB 12GB of LPDDR5 mobile RAM and have up to 256GB of storage based on UFS 3.0 technology. OnePlus managed to boost the performance and all thanks go to HPB (Host Performance Booster) technology.

Note: 5G connectivity won’t make any sense for the most of the countries because 4G is still being utilised by most of the Telecommunication companies, and I don’t see developing nations to set up 5G spectrums anytime soon. The on-going Telecommunication company debts in many countries are not creating positive vibes for 5G network establishment.

120Hz QHD + AMOLED Display

oneplus 8 pro display
OnePlus 8 Pro Display

OnePlus 8 Pro shines with taller 6.78-inch QHD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and 240Hz touch sampling rate. I want to point out this upgrade when compared to OnePlus 8 Pro that had a 90Hz 2K+ resolution panel.

The OnePlus management also reported that device owners can upscale 24FPS content to 120FPS for an immersive experience. Of course, the visual content won’t go on par with a higher frame rate video file, but it does eliminate choppiness in the video file.

The MEMC chip inside OnePlus supports modern applications such as VLC Media Player, MX Player, and other Chinese apps. Also, the MEMC chip supports streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc.

Quad-Camera Setup

oneplus 8 pro camera
OnePlus 8 Pro Camera

OnePlus 8 Pro implemented minor improvements in the quad-camera setup. The primary camera sports 48MP (f/1.78) Sony IMX689 sensor that has already made its way to the market in the form of Oppo Find X2. The 48MP (f/2.2) Sony IMX586 sensor covers ultra-wide-angle with a 120-degree Field-of-view. You have an 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens that is capable of 30x digital zoom and 3x hybrid zoom. OnePlus introduced a colour filter camera that enables OnePlus 8 Pro to capture filtered photos.

The company stabilised the primary & telephoto camera optically (include OIS) to capture stunning videos. The dual-LED flash and laser autofocus work as advertised and no complaints here.

oneplus 8 pro camera sample
OnePlus 8 Pro Camera Sample

Speaking of Selfie Camera? OnePlus 8 Pro rocks 16 MP (f/2.5) that supports 1080p recording at 30FPS. Unfortunately, OnePlus needs to invest heavily in the front camera department because it lacks a flagship front camera knack.

IP Rating/Certification

The dust & water resistance certification is a notable feature on flagship phones, and OnePlus always ignored it to lower the manufacturing & selling cost. However, OnePlus 8 Pro is IP68 certified, which means that the phone can survive 1.5 meters of water up to 30 minutes. 8 Pro also won’t bow down to dust particles and will survive in the long run.

Battery

oneplus 8 pro wireless charger
OnePlus 8 Pro Wireless Charger

OnePlus started to leave clues all over the internet before the release, so we were pretty much informed about the battery capacity and the contents. OnePlus 8 Pro powered by 4,510 mAh battery that comes with Warp Charge 30T wired fast-charger. The charging brick can juice up the battery from 0% to 100% within 70 minutes.

But, OnePlus should have introduced 50W fast-charger because they are charging a premium for the phone. Meanwhile, Realme X2 Pro launched 50W fast-charger at a much lesser price-point. I strongly believe that OnePlus is planning to add this minor upgrade to the T-edition coming by the end of the year.

Finally, OnePlus 8 Pro also supports wireless charging and it is a 30W fast-charger. Yes, you read it right, and you can charge the phone from 0% to 100% in 70 minutes using a wireless charger and that’s good news. However, you have to pay $70 for the wireless charger that supports reverse wireless charging. You can charge the phone, earbuds, smartwatches, and more.

Note: OnePlus wireless charging is a proprietary technology and universally it charges at 5W. In short, you cannot replace the primary wireless charger that juices up almost every device at home or office.

Connectivity

Both OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro packed with essential connectivity options. Starting with USB Type-C port (charging), Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.0, GALILEO (location services), Dual-band A-GPS, NFC (payments), and NavIC.

What’s missing?

Unfortunately, OnePlus mocked Apple for removing 3.5mm in iPhone 7 and later they followed the trend, the good old irony. The 3.5mm headphone jack is still missing, but the dual stereo speakers were improved for overall high-quality sound production.

New OxygenOS Features

oneplus 8 pro oxygen os
OnePlus 8 Pro Oxygen OS

OxygenOS 10 is the cleanest skin over the Android 10 mobile operating system. The 10th edition offers cleaner user-interface and intuitive features. I want to highlight some important features like Game Space, Smart Display, Wind Down, Block by Keywords, App Permissions and more. The highly optimised mobile operating system brings flagship performance and provides an optimal environment.

Colours, Price and Availability

oneplus 8 pro colours
OnePlus 8 Pro Colour Variants

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be available from 14th April 2020. Currently, OnePlus announced two variants of 8 Pro in 3 colours:

  • 8GB RAM + 128GB base variant for $899
  • 12GB RAM + 256GB high-end variant for $999

OnePlus 8 Pro Colours:

  • Glacial Green
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Onyx Black

Bottom Line

OnePlus phone pricing increased drastically from the past two years, and $999 for the high-end variant is pretty premium pricing now. Most of the existing consumers purchased the phone because OnePlus was the flagship killer and the lower offered price. However OnePlus has finally delivered what a premium flagship phone should offer to it’s customers to justify the price. Let me know what you think about OnePlus 8 Pro in the comments section below.

OnePlus 8: Everything you need to know

OnePlus 8 Specs, Price: OnePlus has surprised us with the launch of the 8th edition of former flagship killer smartphones amidst pandemic situations around the world. The online event consists of information that already been leaked online several weeks before the initial launch. I do have plenty of information to share on the new edition of OnePlus 8 series.

Now, let us jump straight towards the highlights of the phone and make a final decision on whether it is a suitable device to upgrade or stick to the older generation.

oneplus 8

OnePlus 8 Specifications

Flagship Processor

oneplus 8 processor
OnePlus 8 Processor

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 865 chipset, which stands as a flagship processor for 2020 and OnePlus added it to the latest generation. Of course, the 8th edition managed by 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB (UFS 3.0) storage.

The eye candy technology is Snapdragon X55 modem onboard for 5G connectivity, but I want to point out that it won’t come in handy for most of the consumers. Talking about the future proof device, Snapdragon X55 supports SA and NSA 5G modes.

Note: 5G technology is being advertised around the globe, even though the majority of the countries don’t have the proper infrastructure to build a 5G spectrum. I want to inform the readers to consider other factors of the phone excluding the 5G network.

90Hz AMOLED Display

oneplus 8 display
OnePlus 8 Display

OnePlus 8 brings minor upgrades when compared to the previous predecessor.

The new display name is quite a mouthful name Full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display offers a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. The dual-curved edges display has a punch-hole cutout, where a high-quality 16MP selfie shooter being placed.

OnePlus took the resolution to maximum this time around and brought 1080 x 2400 resolutions with 20:9 aspect ratios. Similar to competitors, they brought HDR 10+ features to the 8th edition, and the brightness peaks 1100 nits. Speaking of the flagship, the OnePlus 8 display is secured by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

Note: 90Hz Display won’t make any difference in everyday usage, and the majority of the games don’t support the 90Hz refresh rate, and in short, it’s not a big deal for the average consumers.

Triple Cameras

OnePlus 8 Camera
OnePlus 8 Camera

OnePlus brand has always been criticised for not having a flagship camera setup on the phones. The authority has promised to invest heavily in this department in the last segment. The primary shooter packs 48MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX586 sensor with OIS, while 16MP is dedicated to ultra-wide pictures. The brand did add a macro camera, but I wouldn’t comment on it until we have a proper hands-on review on it.

The previous generation shortcomings were audio zoom, 3-HDR video, etc. Now, we have to keep an eye out for the independent macro camera, whether it compensates for the telephoto lens or not. I do ask the readers to wait for our in-depth review or watch a proper hands-on review from well-known YouTube creators.

Battery (No Improvements)

OnePlus 8 Battery
OnePlus 8 Battery

OnePlus 8 bundled with 4300mAh battery backed by 30T fast-charging (Warp Charge) support. Overall, OnePlus did not spend plenty of consideration in the charging department and most probably saving the upgrade for T-edition dropping later down the line.

The Realme X2 Pro supports 50W SuperWarp fast-charging and comes under the lesser budget bracket. Of course, I would point that 30T fast-charging is more than enough, but I would not consider this phone as an upgrade from the previous generation.

Connectivity

Speaking of connectivity, OnePlus is following Apple’s trend of removing 3.5mm headphone jack. You won’t miss out on essential connectivity options such as USB Type-C port (charging), Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6th generation (802.11ax), NFC (for payments), GALILEO (location services), dual-band A-GPS and more.

You got Dual Stereo Speakers in OnePlus 8 that might compensate missing 3.5mm headphone jack option.

New OxygenOS Features

oneplus 8 oxygen os
OnePlus 8 Oxygen OS

OxygenOS 10 is based on Android 10 coupled with OnePlus 8 that supports Amazon Alexa, and Google Stadia out-of-the-box. The AOD (Always-on Display) packed with modern features including Live Captions, Dark theme, Dynamic wallpapers, and more. Overall, OxygenOS 10 runs on a modern Android mobile operating system and highly optimised for optimal performance.

OnePlus 8 (Compromise)

IP Rating or IP Certification is an important factor in 2020. Unfortunately, OnePlus did not introduce IP Rating to keep the manufacturing cost lower and reduce the selling price. However, OnePlus 8 Pro launched with IP Certification and is the first phone to have IP certified.

OnePlus 8 Price and Availability

oneplus 8 colour variants
OnePlus 8 Colour Variants

OnePlus 8 is available in 3 colours and two variants:

  • 8GB + 128GB base variant for $699
  • 12GB + 256GB high-end variant for $799

OnePlus 8 Colours:

  • Glacial Green
  • Interstellar Glow
  • Onyx Black

OnePlus authority announced that the phone is available from 14th April 2020 during the launch event, but the pandemic situation resulted in the unforeseen market shift. OnePlus is a Chinese brand and might not able to release the phones and ship them globally until the COVID-19 presence is eliminated.

Bottom Line

The popular Chinese brand is taking a lot of heat from global consumers because the company roots connect to the current pandemic situation. I have also seen tremendous backlash from the consumers for being an overpriced device, and I would love to see how everything will transpire. I would love to know your thoughts on OnePlus 8 features and pricing in the comment section below.

OnePlus 7 Battery

How to Extend OnePlus 7 Battery Life

The OnePlus 7 comes with a 3700 mAh battery with 20 Watt fast charger. With a blazingly fast charging speed, it takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery 50% and just one hour to be 90%. Though it has a very good battery configuration, the more uses of data in gaming, movie watching, and other tasks discharge your battery very fast. Sometimes background running apps and other incorrect settings also eat up your battery power too fast. To increase battery life in OnePlus 7 and enjoy the uninterrupted gaming focus on some simple tricks.

Method 1: Fix Your Screen Timeout Settings

Your OnePlus 7 display is one among the largest battery drains, that the best thanks to hampering on battery usage are to stay it off whenever you are not actively operating it.

Go into the Settings menu and tap to the Sleep to regulate however long the show stays on once it isn’t being touched. Change the default screen timeout to the minimum possible unit to save you each possible bit of the battery.

Method 2: Disable the Ambient Display

If you get tons of notifications, you’ll be able to think about turning off the “New notifications” setting similarly — although this is often a fairly nice feature to warn you of once new notifications are available. Excess amount of background running notifications consumes a good amount of battery and drain it rapidly.

Enable Dark mode settings to increase battery life of OnePlus 7
Dark Mode Enabling

Enabling the Dark Mode can effectively improve the battery life of your mobile on OLED display in your One Plus 7 mobile. Generally, this OLED display is used to light up all pixels on your screen. Enabling the Dark Mode ensures that only a few pixels are being used to light up your screen. This completely blacked out Dark Mode of OnePlus 7, drastically improves your battery life by increasing yours on screen time.

To enable the Dark Mode:

Go to the Settings – Tap on the Display – navigate the Theme option and tap on it – select Dark option.

Now it is changed all over into the Dark Mode.

Method 5: Drop the Screen Resolution

Drop screen resolution to increase the battery life in OnePlus 7
Adjust Screen Resolution

The maximum resolution and clarity mode in your OnePlus 7 uses to brighten up a whole lot of pixels, which depletes your battery very fast. Luckily you can manage a vibrant and bright screen after downgrading the screen resolutions too. You can also select the Auto Switch option that automatically switches your screen to the correct resolutions as per need.

To proceed the screen resolution:

First, go to the Settings – Tap on to the Display – Scroll down the screen and select Resolution by tapping on it – Choose among the options either Auto Switch or Others.

This is the best way to conserve your battery life for long running days.

Reboot Your Phone

It is the easiest way to deal with the fastest draining battery issues. As you notice that the battery is draining too fast or you want to give a fresh start to your phone, press the Power button and tap to the Reboot option. The phone will automatically be rebooted. You can also use manual rebooting to refresh your mobile settings.

Isolating the Draining Apps

Have a look at the apps you are using in your mobile. There are many apps consuming your battery more than the amount they should. Sometimes when installing an app from Play Store some other apps automatically installed in your phone. Check for such apps and uninstall them.

Jump into the Settings menu then tap on the Battery option and it will present you a detailed breakdown of all apps and their battery consumptions. The frequently used apps display on the top of the list. You can uninstall the useless apps and limit the per day usage of most using apps.

Turn Off The WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS when not in use

An always-on Bluetooth can cause a continuous battery downfall. Same is with the Wi-Fi and GPS. A running WiFi always searches for a network to connect and consumes the charging of your battery. Hence it is far better to turn off these features while they are not in use. Also removing the apps using GPS navigation can also increase some hours to your battery life.

How to Fix Android Auto Not Working

Fix Android Auto issues: Android Auto is an official technology that enables smartphones to connect to the car display system. Vehicle manufacturers were provided legal authorization and technology to add it on several entry-level and high-end cars. The combination of vehicle and Android smartphone creates a unique communication line that prevents accidents, and consumers will never miss a call. It adds up additional functions such as listening to the songs in a vehicle without connecting USB flash drive or SD card and play music over the phone.

OnePlus exploded in the market, when the company launched flagship killer devices around the world. The budget-friendly high-end smartphone’s literally had every single piece of technology that rival brands were selling in the market. I have used the word “LITERALLY” because OnePlus manufacturer started to tone down smartphone features and hiking the price on newer devices.

Android Auto requires specific requirements and it includes Hardware + Software, and non-functioning services contribute to several aspects. Today, we are going to explore the reasons why Android Auto is not working, and how to fix them.

Android Auto not working

How to Fix Android Auto Not Working

1. Compatibility

An Android consumer cannot outrun hardware requirements. Several users could not figure out the contributing problem due to lack of information on the official website. Allow us to provide in-depth information on the Android software requirements, and specific Android Auto requirement.

Country:

Those, who are aware of the technology limitations, the Android Auto is not available in several countries. I’m going to list down a number of countries that integrated Android Auto on wide-range of vehicles.

  • Australia
  • Argentina
  • Austria
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Chile
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • Guatemala
  • Germany
  • France
  • India
  • Italy
  • Ireland
  • Mexico
  • New Zealand
  • Paraguay
  • Puerto Rico
  • Panama
  • Peru
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela

If your native country or region is not listed above, then consider yourself unlucky. The officials are working on expanding the services globally, so do not lose faith in technology.

Android Version:

Don’t get surprised by device incompatibility because only 10.4% consumers are using Android 9.0 version. The official developers of Google’s Android announced that Android Auto supports on Android 5.0 or above devices. I recommend OnePlus consumers to update the software up to Nougat 7 and make sure to subscribe for a higher data plan.

Android Auto not working

I don’t prefer to repeat the same sentence twice, but your device must have an active internet connection. I recommend 3G connection or above for seamless connectivity.

2. Vehicle Compatibility

Android management reached out hundreds of popular vehicle manufacturers for collaboration. Google ahead of Apple in terms of collaboration and open projects, and they tied up with hundreds of car manufacturers.

Android Auto is an advanced technology that is not available on every single model of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Vauxhall, UniMax, Tata Motors, and more. Let us take Tata Motors for instance, where the manufacturer integrated Google’s Android technology on Nexon (2017) only.

Android Auto Vehicle Compatibility

Meanwhile, Tata Motors launches hundreds of passenger vehicles every year. The concept applies to big names in the industry such as Subaru, Suzuki, Skoda, Renault, Peugeot, etc. Of course, big brand names such as Audi, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Citroën, Ford, and more welcomed the technology in several cars.

In case, if you are scratching your head to learn about the vehicle compatibility, then check on the official car webpage or Android Auto webpage. Due to technology limitations and budget-friendly oriented solutions miss out Android Auto because it increases expenditure cost & eliminates budget-friendly tag in the vehicle market.

3. Double-check Hardware Connectivity

Currently, Android Auto supports USB cable connectivity and Car receiver technology. I did not mention limitations properly, but apparently cable length above 5ft long disturbs connectivity. The company also states that using an extension or unsupported USB cable can trigger the issue.

Android consumers must bring along USB cable bundled in the phone box and third-party or non-OEM verified USB cable can create distortions in connectivity. Using third-party USB cable is not allowed as the technology is fairly new for the Industrial manufacturers.

Millions of car commuters modify the vehicle in some way, and it invites drawbacks that they do not know about it. You must have witnessed people changing “Car Receivers” and choosing an aftermarket solution instead.

I recommend sticking to stock “Car Receivers” or “Bluetooth Receiver” because the drivers & compatibility meets official Android Auto application. Seeking support from the receiver manufacturer can resolve the problem, but switching back to the stock solution is recommended.

4. Video Flow Error

Despite owning a vehicle supporting AUTO technology, and pairing it successfully, still leading to “NO DISPLAY.” Millions of consumers suffering from Android Auto working smoothly on the device, but there is showing up on the car display. I’m not sure, whether it is a BUG or GLITCH, but you can resolve it by reconnecting it.

Step 1: Go to “Car Settings.”

Step 2: Click on “Smartphone Connections.”

Step 3: Reconnect to Android Auto

Your phone will appear in the list, but it will be disabled for some unknown reasons. The functions won’t appear & adjusting settings is not possible, when the vehicle is on the operation.

5. Enable Android Auto

Unfortunately, manufacturers keeping AUTO function disabled by default, and you need to enable it manually. The user-interface differs from one vehicle to another motor vehicle, but you should be able to find it after exploring through the settings.

Step 1: Open Car Settings.

Step 2: Swipe down until you find “APPS” and click on it to open more settings.

Step 3: Select “Android Auto.”

Step 4: Tap to enable “Enable after USB Connection.”

Make sure to set USB connection as “ALWAYS” and it will work every time you connect the phone.

Bottom Line

Applications crafted by brands prone to BUGS & GLITCHES and a reputed company would never accept it. I recommend uninstalling Android Auto on phone and resetting software of the car. A simple technique can resolve major problems, and I already mentioned that Android Auto is fairly new technology, so update the car firmware for a smoother experience.

[Fixed] Heating issues on OnePlus 6T, 7, 7 Pro and 7T

Fix Overheating Problem on OnePlus Phones: Hardware oriented Smartphone industry packed phones rose to fame, ever since Qualcomm & Mediatek started to sell Smartphone processors to manufacturers. Overheating is an issue that the majority of the low-end, mid-range, and high-end phones suffer from it. Of course, the phone processors may rival the PC mechanism, but they do not have enough space for the cooling system.

In a race to ship a dominant portable device, smartphone manufacturers cannot fit a physical cooling system in the device. Manufacturers such as AMD and Intel highly depending on the stock cooling system, but portable devices aren’t lucky in this case.

OnePlus successfully sold million devices all over the world and millions of consumers lining for the upgrade. How to Fix Heating issues on OnePlus 6T, 7, 7 Pro and 7T

1. Faulty Battery

OnePlus smartphone manufactured reputed Chinese hardware company and the computerized quality test thoroughly check them for faulty parts. One of my Android devices suffering from intensive heating and the temperature was reaching above 60° without connecting to the charger dock.

I replaced the stock battery with an alternative original battery that I purchased from a store. A faulty battery temperature rises significantly higher, even when the device is sitting idle and nothing is running in the background. OnePlus 7th generation phones come with a one-year warranty and claim the warranty immediately.

2. Third-Party Variables

I do not carry USB cable & charging brick along with me during short journeys. Instead, I use my companion rig and it is not recommended whatsoever. Every USB-C or USB-B may seem similar technology, but the functions might differ from one and another.

By using third-party USB cable or charging brick can trigger heating and if you use it continuously, then it will impact charging port. You don’t want to cause chip-level damage and the extensive damage occurs by using it one-time.

OnePlus recommend using OEM certified charging brick and cable. Remember, even one volt & ampere (6.24 x 1018 charge carriers) can cause chip-level damage. The $1 solutions and Amazon basic charging kit don’t count under OEM certified accessories.

3. Multiple Applications Running

The android operating system evolved over the years, and RAM management has improved along the way. In modern times, utility applications prefer to run in the background such as Messenger, Twitter, WhatsApp, UPI Payments, Wire payment applications, Shopping apps, and more.

Google Chrome application runs in the background and it consumes a lot of RAM & resources. Chrome can work up the CPU and it can put a lot of stress on the remaining resources. Combining a few applications running in the background together drastically increases the CPU stress level.

Connecting to the internet triggers synchronization process and it connects to Google mail and Social media apps. Transferring large files over internet to cloud storage builds up a lot of heat inside the phone. OnePlus software developers recommend keeping the sync-on disabled permanently. The official Android developers also recommend keeping Sync-off, when connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi or 4G.

Solution: Close background apps

4. Using While Charging

Be it an Android phone or OnePlus phone, keeping the device busy, while charging does build up heat, and causing malfunction. Overtime usage, while charging a device does impact battery performance and chip-level disaster.

For smoother performance, Android consumers are recommended to turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2G or 4G, and cloud synchronization. PUBG mobile players purchasing the beast 7th generation phones, but playing longer periods on a portable machine doesn’t have a happy ending.

Do not presume that using out of the box charging brick & USB cable does not promote overheating. You have to keep in mind that overheating triggered by using power banks & USB charging as well. Unfortunately, phone consumers cannot install the cooling system on a portable device.

5. Restart Android Phone

A small change can bring a big difference, and I believe in the popular saying. OnePlus consumers do not provide enough sleep time for the powerful machine in the smartphone market. Even though the 7th generation OnePlus device might stand out of the crowd, still it requires an hour of sleep.

The portable machine flows with electricity and it may not require an hour of shut down. However, experts claim that it is a good habit to provide OnePlus 7, 7 Pro and 7T edition a quick restart to free up RAM and other aspects of the phone.

Bottom Line

An overheating phone should never be ignored by consumer and service center because it can lead towards explosion. Even though previous generation of OnePlus reported for an explosion, and the newer devices weren’t yet, I recommend taking enough measures to avoid it.
